Voyager

These framed photographs
I made several years ago
as a set of 10.

Usually they live in a box but now
they are on display in my studio.

The misshapen monkey is from
the Whanganui Museum.
I made about 1500
badges from the image.

Today's Camellia

Taranaki has a nip in the air
which Himalayan plants such as
Camellia and Rhododhendrum like a lot.

In my garden they grow vigorously.

Coleus

For the last 12 months I've quite suddenly
become interested in coleus. These specimens
are in my studio and seemed to have
grown quite sturdy over the winter.

I've photographed them several times over the
last few months but, as usual, todays image
is the one that I am most interested in.

Details

Today

I'm in the middle of a major
tighten up of my office, studio,
and living quarters.
Now have new roof, insulation, wool on top,
munched up plastic drink bottles underneath,
and black plastic on the damp earth.

Came across these two photos this afternoon.
They are between two and seven years old.

Another Studio View

These are rock samples collected by
the Southland Museum in Invercargill.

Snake

Last night I was babysitting and fortunately
for me the four and a half year old
dug into my toy boxes and dragged
objects out that I had forgotten about.

This snake is one of them.

Outside Walls

Today I have had my electric chainsaw
out and been clearing walls on which
I can glue up photographs that
I have been storing in my studio.

This photo is several years old,
taken of a piece of driftwood
that I picked up near here.

The green plant on either
side is the vine Tecomanthe
Speciosa

A Child

I have quite a lot of toys here and tonight
also a child.

The blue inflatable fish I've had for about
2 years, it originally came from
Invercargill.

I'd had a few attempts at turning it into a picture
but to no avail although I did make
an earlier version, from the collection of the
Southland Museum.

It was a fish turned into light.

But to get back to the point,
the child today had found the blue
fish, blown it up, and brought it
to show me.

It made me take up my camera again.

Hanging

I'm having a major rehanging
of the walls where I live at present.

It's taking much longer than I thought
it would, but still, it requires thought.

The bed in the upper photo is in fact
quite small. It's a child's bed in my guest room.
The pink object on the foot of the bed
is a hot water bottle.
The nights are frosty here at present.

Rose

This photo is of an artificial rose,
the type that has a small light bulb in it.

Trinity

Whitebait

Two Goats

This photo is another that is the beginning
of a tryptych at least.

I think that Trinity and Whitebait should be
the other legs of the tripod.

Waves

I'm gathering my wave photographs together
tonight. I'm not sure whether I've
posted this one before, but I've several
of them and I get confused.
Studio Walls

Today I began, for the first time in ages,
organising the walls of my studio.
Basically I'm doing a ruthless rehang.

I decided to start with my left hand. The wall
to the left of where I sit when I write on the
computer.

Here are 3 recent works, they begin
the line.
